The fourth of July is usually quite uneventful at my house.  Happily, upon meeting one of my dad’s coworker’s we all became fast friends and it’s probably one of the best friendships we’ve come across.  His family is more up for shin-digs

Lawn games on the fourth!

and will use any excuse to throw a party.  Around noon we headed over to his house by the lake and the fun began.  While others started to arrive we set up some lawn games – Ladderball and Kubb.  We had hamburgers, hot dogs, and corn on the grill, plus all the side dishes and deserts we could handle (and a lot we couldn’t).  In

Hanging out!

between stuffing ourselves, the adults talked and had some drinks while more lawn games continued.  Our friend also has something special that he sets up for the fourth – his own mini cannon.  Yup, you heard right.  It’s this tiny thing that really packs a punch when you add black powder and fire it out over the lake.  Unfortunately, he couldn’t get it to work the first time while we all had our ears plugged, but then it did work when none of us were expecting it……everyone say “mini heart attack!”

After things started to cool off and get dark, we all piled into his boat and took off to the middle of the lake so we could view the official and unofficial fireworks taking place.  We were all pretty disappointed with the official pyrotechnics…..obviously their budget wasn’t up to par.  However, one of Lake Bomoseen’s *ahem* more well endowed resident’s stepped up to the plate….or should I say fuse?  Luckily it was our friends next store neighbor, so we had a front row seat.

It was an amazing close to the evening and I look forward to next year!
